We teach and dance Balkan dances. These dances are done in an open circle, so no partners are needed. It is very informal and light-hearted, and no experience is required.
Soft shoes are a good idea. The evening starts with a teaching session, followed by a break. The second half is requests. We are there to enjoy ourselves -Join us for fun, friendship, and movement!
DUNAV (Bulgarian for the river Danube) is the new name for Barnet International Folk Dance Club. BIDFC was founded in 1962 by Henry Morris, an enthusiast for the folk music revival at that time. He also founded a Balkan music band called Dunav, performing for six decades and cutting an album of Balkan favourites.
BIDFC has flourished for many decades under the leadership of Brian Dowsett and became a leading light and model for Balkan Plus, which continues to meet monthly at Cecil Sharp House in Camden Town.
Dunav meets at Church House, Wood St, Barnet (next to the main church where the High St forks with Wood St).
